As the year is soon coming to a close, there are so many things on our mind. The holiday season has us thinking about all the family and friends we haven't seen in awhile and the impression we want to make when we see them again. Yet, when we are racing around shopping, cooking and being everything to everyone else, we often find ourselves drained by the end of the season.
So what have we learned from doing this again and again year after year? We all know that we must take care of ourselves first . Attending to our needs not only makes us available to be there for others, it also ensures that we are not burnt out all the time. Question is, how do we go about it?
I believe the two most important ingredients to taking care of yourself first are maintaining healthy boundaries and knowing when to ask for help. Committing to placing these two simple principles in your life will guarantee that you are empowered and enjoy the way you choose to spend your time.
Practice any potential tough conversations you may have with a safe person. (If you are afraid of what your mother-in-law may say at Thanksgiving, don't talk to your husband about it!) Do your best and look for different ways of respectfully communicating what you will and won't discuss. If you are the host for an event, ask folks to do small tasks such as bringing a side dish. This will not only help you out, but also makes them feel useful.
So what are so ways you plan to put yourself first this holiday season? What are some boundary setting tools you use? Are there key people in your life that you can enlist as your go to people?
